Privacy Policy

This policy explains what personal information this website collects, why we collect it, who it is shared with, and the rights you have over it. It covers this website only.

Who is responsible for your information

The data controller is Megan Rutherford, trading as Rutherford Beauty, of 18A Dundas Street, New Town, Edinburgh, EH3 6HZ.

What we collect, and why

Booking and enquiry form. When you submit the form on our contact page we collect your name, email address, phone number, the treatments you are interested in, your preferred day and time, and anything you write in the comments box. We use it solely to respond to your enquiry and arrange your appointment. Our lawful basis is legitimate interests - you have asked us to get in touch, and answering you is what we both expect.

Newsletter. If you subscribe, we collect your email address and use it only to send occasional updates and offers. Our lawful basis here is your consent, recorded at the point you subscribe, and you can withdraw it at any time using the unsubscribe link or by contacting us. Subscribing is entirely separate from making an enquiry - neither requires the other.

Website analytics. We record which pages are viewed so we can understand what visitors find useful. This is measured without cookies and without any attempt to identify you personally.

We do not collect health or medical information through this website.

Who we share it with

We do not sell your information and we do not share it for anyone else's marketing. We use a small number of service providers who process it strictly on our instructions:

  • 53 Nexus - our customer records system, which stores your enquiry so we can respond to it and keep track of your appointment.
  • Resend - delivers the notification email to the salon and the confirmation email to you.
  • Vercel - hosts this website and processes the request logs that come with serving any web page.

We may also disclose information where we are required to by law.

Where your information is held. Enquiry and subscriber records are stored in London, in the United Kingdom. The website itself is served from infrastructure in the United States, so the request that carries your form submission is processed there before the record is stored. Where information leaves the UK, those transfers are covered by the safeguards the providers have in place, such as the UK addendum to the EU standard contractual clauses.

How long we keep it

Enquiries are kept for up to two years from your last contact with us, so we have a record of your treatment history and preferences if you return. Newsletter subscriptions are kept until you unsubscribe. You can ask us to delete your information sooner than this at any time, using the contact details below, and we will.

Your rights

You have the right to ask us for a copy of the information we hold about you, to have it corrected if it is wrong, to have it deleted, to object to how we are using it, and to ask us to restrict its use. Where we rely on your consent - the newsletter - you can withdraw it at any time, and doing so does not affect anything we sent before you withdrew.

To exercise any of these, email us at hello@rutherfordbeauty.co.uk. We will respond within one month.

If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office, the UK data protection regulator, at ico.org.uk. We would ask that you raise it with us first so we have the chance to put it right.

Cookies and what is stored on your device

This website sets no cookies at all, and nothing here is used for advertising, profiling or sold to advertisers. Nothing is kept on your device between visits, so you are not recognised when you come back.

The only thing stored is a short random session number, held for the length of your visit so that a single visit is not counted several times over. It is erased when you close the tab, it is not linked to your name, email or any enquiry you send us, and it cannot be used to follow you to other websites.

That is why you are not asked to accept cookies when you arrive. You can clear the session number at any time through your browser's "clear site data" or private-browsing settings, with no effect on your use of the site.

Changes to this policy

If we change how we handle personal information we will update this page and change the date at the top.
